MAIN PROCEDURE

Ensure that only ISO-8859-1 characters are used (Open Office 	"encoded text")

Proof the text output against the original
- double-check paragraphing
- mark italicization
- indent where line breaks must be kept (poetry etc)
- keep the page numbers

Settle questions of hyphenation etc using whole text

Do a complete spell check

Check for any likely recurring errors, such as
- ? "
- ! "

First save: PROOFED

Remove page numbers
Use Etext reader to remove line breaks within paragraphs
Use Kate or Notepad++ to save as Line with Breaks of 60 length
Remove trailing spaces

Second save: BASED

Take a copy of the Based version, and rename it the Text version
Do three-space indentation where needed (block quotations)
Turn double underscores into single underscores
Remove all remaining comments
Insert Legal and Produced By prologue
Insert "End of" footer
Inspect and archive the new Text version

Third save: TEXTED

Take a copy of the Based version, and rename it the HTML version
Insert Legal and Produced By prologue
Insert "End of" footer
Turn the underscores back into <i> and </i>
Replace double hyphens with em dashes (&mdash;)
Handle quotations (<blockquote>)
Handle indentations  (<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;)
Handle centering (<center>)
Add HTML tags as necessary (ideally with a tool for <p> and </p>)
Remove all remaining ** comments
Add table of contents with links to chapter headings
Handle footnotes
Add list of errata
Insert frontispiece

Careful readthrough of HTML version, with correction of both versions
